Safeway Maritime Rotterdam BV (SMR) is the group member focusing on training for specialised maritime services.
Every year, pilots, captains and other maritime officers attend short or long training courses. Examples of the various courses offered include: bridge team management, familiarising pilots with new types of vessels operated by STC- Group members or port basins and traffic management systems. Training maritime officers to operate high-speed vessels is a relatively new development.
SMR uses simulators and training vessels of the STC-Group on its training courses. The software used focuses on situations in which safety is jeopardised. SMR offers new products in relation to portable pilot units and shore-based pilotage.
SMR provides its training courses in co-operation with the other members of the STC-Group and the Dutch Pilotage Services. The co-operative partnership offers great advantages – it provides the organisation with the expertise, resources, instructors and facilities required to offer high-quality courses. For example, training vessels, simulators and helicopters can be utilised. It is also possible to spend practical pilotage time on board deep-sea vessels.
Most of SMR’s courses are held in Rotterdam, but if the client so desires they can be organised at suitable locations anywhere in the world.
